Scaling Innovation In Food And Agriculture Case Study

Welcome to our next insightful online case study from the Si Food Hub!
In this event Lennart Woltering, a scaling catalyst at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, will highlight the need, the challenges and the drivers of scaling successful innovations in Food and Agriculture.

We will explore how systems thinking is strongly integrated in agricultural research for development for the Global South and how the concept of “scaling” is used as a vehicle to strengthen systems thinking.

There have been a myriad of piloted solutions in Food and Agriculture that can create meaningful impact if only applied at scale. However, few piloted projects ever reach scale and fall short of their potential to achieving the UN sustainability goals
Reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is highly dependent on our ability to transform our food systems to be more sustainable and socially inclusive.

This event will be of relevance to those who are interested in seeing how system thinking can impact the scaling of innovations in sustainable development for our food system.

About Lennart Woltering:

Lennart Woltering assists scientists and development practitioners in expanding the impact of their work beyond project boundaries. He advocates for a shift in mindset around scaling from “reaching many” to include sustainability, responsibility and systems change. Beyond CIMMYT and the CGIAR, Lennart advises a range of development organizations, alliances and donors on scaling strategies.

Lennart chairs the Agriculture and Rural Development working group of the International Community of Practice on Scaling, a community of more than a hundred donors, scientists and development experts. He works for the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and is a core member of the GIZ/CGIAR Task Force on Scaling. He is also a fellow of the Global Evergreening Alliance- a global campaign to restore degraded lands worldwide.

About the Si Food Hub:

This event will be hosted by the Si Food Hub – a space to bring people and organisations together for shared learning about systems thinking in the context of food, agriculture and food innovation how to apply systems innovation methods and tools towards tackling the complex challenges we face in our food systems around the world today.
